Heck, no! We won't go!

With Marty's permission, I am calling on anyone who reads this to help settle a small marital dispute. :) Last week we got on the subject of dentists (I think we were talking about what our insurance covers). I made the mistake of mentioning how expensive it was going to be to take all of our kids to the dentist every six months. And the rest of the conversation went a little like this:

Marty: Oh, I never went to the dentist twice a year and I've never had a cavity. Once a year is fine.
Emily: Well, I went every six months and I have had fillings. You're supposed to go every six months. So we will.
Marty: But no one actually does it.
Emily: But we will.
Marty (chanting): Heck, no! We won't go! Heck, no! We won't go! Heck, no! We won't go!

So, how many of you take your kids to the dentist every six months?

I don't want to get in the middle of anything, but my mom never took us as children and still doesn't with my siblings. Sorry marty, all my siblings have serious promblems with their teeth, you were really lucky like my husband, his was the same way, he is still that way. I was lucky to have good teeth too, but now that I am married it seems like every six months I have promblems with my teeth. Anyway, I too have had these debates within myself and I do firmly beleive you should go every six months. Luckily I talked to my dentist to really gage on when to take children in. It usually starts at 3 years and you do need to take them in so they can get in the habit of good oral hygiene. I just know that if the teeth is going to have promblems taking them in every six months helps predict and prevent certain promblems. In my personal aspect, Me and the kids go every six months and jason does what he wants with his own. So it's ulimately up to you. I hoped I added a third perspective. I think it's really important and alot of it comes from my siblings having rotted teeth. So I hope it helped. It'll work out. :)

I think you either have good teeth or you don't...when my parents had insurance we went once or twice a year when they didn't we went every couple of years :) I think it is really important to get in the habit of brushing at least morning and night (afternoon if you can) and flossing at lease once a day...And if you insurance covers going to the dentist twice a year, why not :)

I think your husband is one of the VERY lucky people who doesnt get cavitys easy! My husband has had 1 filling! And it wasnt a cavity it was chipped tooth! NOT FAIR!!! But he went every 6 months Me on the other hand ahh I visit my lovely dentist about every 3 MONTHS! I have horrible teeth! Good luck settling! I am sure you will win! Hey if its a free cleaning why not?

Hahaha! I LOVE it! You guys are hilarious!! Yup, we take our kids every 6 months too! Buuut we don't have ANY dental insurance - we have to buy our own insurance with Jasons job & we were told flat out that dental insurance was a waste of money... So, anyways, we still feel very strongly that it is important to take them & we just pay for it. So far Ethan has had 1 cavity, but Gavin's teeth are great.

We take Emma every six months but don't go nearly that often ourselves...yuck, I hate the dentist! But I can tell you it will not be expensive because, if I know anything about your insurance, which I do because we have the same insurance, it's totally covered.
